TauRx Group Fact Sheet
Executive Chairman: Professor Claude Wischik
Personnel: 74 Founded: 2002
Profile: TauRx is a life sciences company focused on the discovery of therapies and diagnostics for neurodegenerative diseases of the central nervous system, especially Tau Aggregation Inhibitors to slow or halt the progression of or prevent Alzheimer's and related diseases.
Mission Statement: We are committed to the discovery and development of proprietary drugs for neurodegenerative diseases, addressing the underlying cause of disease by innovative molecular level approaches, thus bringing hope to patients and families and value to our shareholders.
Pipeline: Research through to clinical stage proprietary candidate therapeutics and diagnostics for neurodegenerative diseases with a focus on drugs that prevent or modify the course of or prevent diseases associated with protein misfolding, especially pathology related to Tau protein misfolding and its subsequent aggregation. The Company has discovered and is developing a proprietary range of Tau Aggregation Inhibitors (TAIs). The promise of TauRx’s pipeline was demonstrated by its first TAI, rember™, in a large multinational phase 2 clinical trial. Psychometric readouts from subjects exposed to rember™ showed evidence of an 80% reduction in the rate of Alzheimer’s disease progression by the end of trial years one and two, compared to controls. Functional neuroimaging results from the trial supported the psychometric data: in patients exposed to rember™, the loss of function occurring in the areas of the brain known to be particularly affected by the tangle pathology of disease was eliminated over 6 months. Functional brain scan benefits seen at 6 months were predictive of clinical benefit at 12 months. Pivotal international phase 3 clinical trials in Alzheimer’s disease and other related disorders are in preparation, using TauRx's second generation TAI, LMTX, one of a range of proprietary compounds discovered at TauRx that have enhanced bioavailability and tolerability profiles.
Technology Platform: One of the most sophisticated range in the CNS field of proprietary tools for the discovery, characterisation and development of targets and novel compounds for the treatment and diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases with particular emphasis on protein misfolding.
Group Companies: TauRx Pharmaceuticals Ltd. is the parent Company for the TauRx Group. It is incorporated in Singapore and consists of TauRx Therapeutics, Ltd, WisTa Laboratories Ltd. (both incorporated in Singapore) and Poredeen Pte Ltd. The TauRx Group has exclusive rights to most of the patents, patent applications and intellectual property generated by WisTa Laboratories Ltd.
Finance Raised to Date: US $120 million
Collaborations: Bayer Schering Pharma (Diagnostics); INC Research (Clinical Trial Support).
Locations: Corporate headquarters in Singapore, primary research facilities in Aberdeen, Scotland.
